With the next holiday season on our doorstep I thought I would help you figure out what you should take along with you for your next getaway. With a few staple items you will be able to travel just about anywhere without spending a fortune on your wardrobe.
It goes without saying that you need to ensure you have all the required documents and booking confirmations so that you don't have any issues when you arrive at the airport or hotel. Nothing is more embarrassing than the hotel/guest house not being able to find your booking and having to find alternate accommodation. Always pack your toiletries in a separate bag incase of spillage, you don't want to ruin your carefully selected outfits.
1. Versatile Tops
One thing you always need is a couple of versatile tops that you can mix and match with various bottoms. A fantastic top to take along is the Rosana top from Silkess. You can wear it with a pair of jeans, shorts, skirt or even to the beach over your swimsuit. Another great plus is that Silkess only offers South African produced clothing with the best quality fabric.
2. Jeans and Shorts
Always pack a few pairs of shorts of various lengths as well as a pair of jeans. Remember to avoid jeans if you are going to a very humid destination as they take too long to dry - rather pack a pair of comfortable pants that are cool and easier to dry. I love the Sissy Boy jeans range as they offer the latest styles to suit any figure.
It is always a great idea to take along a skirt or two that can be worn to the beach, sightseeing or even for a night out on the town. Silkess offers the amazing Armina Skirt that is perfect as it is made from a low crease fabric so travels well. 5. Maxi Dress
I never forget to pack a maxi dress especially if I am planning a day out sightseeing or shopping. I love my Livia Dress from Silkess. This is a firm favorite as it can be worn to any destination on my itinerary and with it's low crease fabric, it looks good all day. Another versatile option is the Pippa Dress.
This is one of the most important travel items in our South African climate. A good hat that can be worn everyday is the perfect accessory for any holiday ensemble. Sunhats has a variety of locally made options available to keep the sun rays from aging your skin.
A comfortable pair of sandals that can be worn everyday is vital to complete your look. Leather is a great option as they are not only durable but stylish too. Sweet Peas offers a variety of options for both sandals and sneakers that will be a great addition to your shoe cupboard. As these are hand made to order you will need to put your order in timeously.
8. Warm Jacket
As weather can be so unpredictable it is important to pack at least one stylish jacket or top for those cooler days and evenings. Make sure its is a neutral colour and style to wear with most of the outfits you have packed. Afromontane offers locally made urban and outdoor jackets made especially for our South African weather.
Pack at least 2 pairs of pajamas for a comfortable nights sleep. Lilies and Lust offers lovely South African designed and produced sleepwear. Don't forget to pack a gown and slippers too.
I have mentioned this last but it is by no means least. I always pack my intimates once I have made my clothing selection. Strapless tops require strapless bra's. White clothing items need flesh colored undies. Tighter outfits need seamless undies etc.
Remember to always packs an extra set of clothing for any unexpected travel delays and travel safe.
